For this project you will need:
– white yarn
– blue yarn
– burgundy yarn (scraps)
– burgundy red pom-poms, 1 inch
– black pom-poms, 1/2 inch
– fiberfill for stuffing
– orange felt
– googly eyes, 5mm
– glue gun or fabric glue
– yarn needle
Abbreviations:
– rnd = round
– sc = single crochet
– inc = increase
– dec = decrease
The snowmen is worked in spirals without joining the round. The final size is about 3 inch tall, depending on the kind of yarn you use. I recommend to crochet with a 2.75mm hook, but you can use any size you feel comfortable with (if you use a larger hook, your snowman will be larger).
Body:
With white yarn, make a magic ring
Rnd 1: 6 sc in center of the ring (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (12)
Rnd 3: [1 sc, inc] 6 times (18)
Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] 6 times (24)
Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] 6 times (30)
Rnd 6 to 13: sc in each st around (30)
Rnd 14: [3 sc, dec] 6 times (24)
Start stuffing, and continue along the way
Rnd 15: [2 sc, dec] 6 times (18)
Rnd 16: [1 sc, dec] 6 times (12)
Rnd 17: dec 6 times (6)
Fasten off, and leave long tail for sewing. Close the hole by embroidering your yarn into a loop in all your stitches. Pull the thread to close the hole, and hide the remaining thread in the stitches of the body.
Scarf:
With blue yarn, ch 55
Row 1: in 2nd ch from hook, 53 hdc
Fasten off, hide the remaining thread by embroidering them in the stitches.
Now comes the fun part’s all about glue!
With a glue glun, wrap the scarf around the body.
Glue the googly eyes right above the scarf.
Cut a small rectangle in orange felt, about half an inch, and glue as you roll it. Pour a little bit of glue on one of the extremities and glue the nose between the eyes.
Now you can make the earmuffs: With burgundy color yarn, ch 14, fasten off. (depending on your yarn you might need to make a little less or more. Check that it is long enough to fit from one ear to the other. Glue it from one side to the other on top of the head, be careful to not pour too much, just little dots along the way will be enough. Hide the remaining threads inside the body using a yarn needle. Now you can glue the large pom-poms on each side.
Glue two small black pom-poms under the scarf to make buttons on the belly.
Last, the hook: cut a piece of thread in white yarn, and insert it on top of the head, then make a double knot. You can hide the knot inside the body by moving the thread (I used a yarn needle to push it in)
Your snowman is finished! You can choose different colors for the scarf, muffs and buttons to make several of them.
