Required Supplies:

  • RED HEART Super Saver: 2 skeins each 942 Melonberry B, 3955 Wildflower G and 512 Turqua H; 1 skein each 358 Lavender A, 256 Carrot C, 320 Cornmeal D, 706 Perfect Pink E, 668 Honeydew F and 316 Soft White I
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]
  • Yarn needle

Gauge/Tension: GAUGE: 7 sc and 7 ch-1 sps = 4″ (10 cm) in pattern; 13 rows = 4″ (10 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Throw measures 56” long x 46” wide (142 x 117 cm)

Notes

1.Throw is made of stripes worked in 5 and 7 row sections. Flowers are sewn on.

2.To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color. Cut old color.

3.Border is worked in joined rounds.

4.Flowers are worked in joined rounds with right side facing at all times. Round 1 of all flowers is worked with I.

5.To minimize weaving in, work over ends as you stitch.

THROW

First Stripe

With A, ch 186.

Row 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across, turn—93 sc and 92 ch-1 spaces.

Rows 2–7: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across, turn. Change to B in last st of Row 7.

Next Stripes

Rows 8–151: Repeat Row 2 and change color as in the following color sequence: Work 5 rows with B, 7 rows with A, 5 rows with B, 7 rows with C, 5 rows with B, 7 rows with D, 5 rows with E, 7 rows with F, [5 rows with G, 7 rows with H] 3 times, 5 rows with G, 7 rows with F, 5 rows with E, 7 rows with D, 5 rows with B, 7 rows with C, [5 rows with B, 7 rows with A] twice.

Fasten off.

Border

With right side facing, join H with sc in 5th sc of last row.

Round 1 (right side): *Ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in next sc; repeat from * across; working across ends of rows of first side, (ch 2, sc) in first row; **ch 1, skip next row, sc in next row**; repeat from ** to ** across; working across opposite side of foundation ch, (ch 2, sc) in first ch, ***ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch; repeat from *** across; working across ends of rows of 2nd side, (ch 2, sc) in first row, repeat from ** to ** across; (ch 2, sc) in first sc of last row, ch 1, skip next ch-1 space, sc in last sc, ch 1, skip last ch-1 space; join with slip st in first sc, turn—338 sc, 338 ch-1 sps, and 4 ch-2 spaces.

Rounds 2–4: Ch 1, skip first sc, sc in next ch-1 space, [*ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to next ch-2 space, ch 1, skip next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 space] 4 times, **ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from ** to last sc, ch 1, skip last sc; join with slip st in first sc, turn—350 sc, 346 ch-1 spaces, and 4 ch-2 spaces.

Fasten off.

Round 5 (right side): With right side facing, join G with sc in first ch-1 space following any corner, [*ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to next ch-2 space, ch 1, skip next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-2 space] 4 times; join with slip st in first sc—354 sc, 350 ch-1 spaces, and 4 ch-2 sps. Do not turn.

Round 6: Slip st in first ch-1 space, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same ch-1 space, [*skip next sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to next ch-2 space, ([sc, ch 2] twice, sc) in next ch-2 space] 4 times; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

Flowers (make 35 – 8 each with C and D, 7 with E, 2 with F, and 10 with H)

With I, ch 5; join with slip st in first ch to form ring.

Round 1 (right side): Ch 1, 10 sc in ring; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.

Round 2: With right side facing, join next color with sc in any sc, ch 2, sc in same sc as join; slip st in next sc, [(sc, ch 2, sc) in next sc, slip st in next sc] 4 times; join with slip st in first sc—10 sc and 5 ch-2 spaces.

FINISHING

Unravel and split each flower’s tail into 2 lengths of 2 plies each. Pin flowers to throw as shown in photograph or as desired. Blind stitch in place. Weave in ends.
