To make the hat:

Materials:

• Size 4 worsted weight yarn
• Size J hook or 6mm
• scissors and yarn needle

Note: Join after each round with the invisible join. With the invisible join, you draw up a loop on the last stitch of the round. Keep the working yarn behind the work, skip the first stitch in the round, insert your hook from the back, and draw the loop from the last stitch of the round. When you get to the end of the round, the last stitch of the round is done in the first stitch you skipped. 

Make a magic ring or ch 4 and slip stitch with the first chain to make a ring.

Round 1: ch 2, 12 dc in a magic ring or ch 4 ring

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch

Round 3: ch 1, BPSC (back post single crochet) around each dc

Round 4: ch 2,*2 dc in a stitch, followed by a dc in the next stitch* around

Round 5: ch 2,*2 dc in a stitch, followed by a dc in the next 2 stitches* around

Round 6: Repeat Round 3

Round 7: ch 2, *2 dc in a stitch, followed by a dc in the next 3 stitches* around

Round 8:ch 2, dc evenly around

Round 9: Repeat Round 3

Round 10-11: Repeat round 8

Round 12: Repeat round 3

Rounds 13-18, repeat rounds 10-12

Round 19 Repeat round 8.

Round 20: sc evenly around
