Materials:

Worsted Weight yarn in snowflake color and background color
(I used Red Heart Supersaver yarn)
Size H hook (5.00mm)
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: 8”h x 8”w inches

Different Stitches:

Treble Crochet (TC): Yarn over 2 times, insert hook in specified st, yarn over, draw up a loop, [yarn over, draw thru 2 loops] Do this3 times.

Picot: Ch5, sl st in 5th chain from hook.

Extended Double Crochet (EDC)-Yarn over, insert hook in specified st, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, draw thru one loop, yarn over, draw thru two loops, yarn over, draw thru last two loops.

Directions:

Rnd 1: With snowflake color ch2, 5 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join with sl st to front loop of first sc.
(5 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch10, sl st in same front loop as joining, [ch10, sl st in front loop of next st] Do this 4 times, ch6, 1 TC in front loop of joining sl st from Rnd 1.
(6-ch10 loops) (ch6+TC counts as first ch10 loop)

Rnd 3: Ch1, 1 sc in first ch10 loop, [(1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, Picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc) all in next ch10 loop] Do this 5 times, (1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, Picot, 1 dc, 1 hdc) all in same ch10 loop as first sc, join with sl st to first sc.
(12dc, 12 hdc, 12sc, 6 Picots) (36sts total)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Note: On Rnd 4 you’re going to work into the back loops (On Rnd 1) left free from working Rnd 2 in front loops only. Do not work into any of the stitches made from Rnd 2 and 3.

Rnd 4: With right side of square facing you join background color with sl st to first back loop left free (from working Rnd 2 in front loops only), ch2, 2 dc in same back loop, 2 dc in each of the next 5 free back loops, join with sl st to first dc.
(12dc) (Beginning ch2 does not count as dc)

Rnd 5: Ch1, 2 sc in same st as joining, 2 sc in each of the next 11 sts, join with sl st to first sc.
(24sc)

Note: On Rnd 6 you’re working into the back loops of the sc on Rnd 3 (Snowflake) together with some of the stitches on the Rnd 5 (Background). You’ll do this by yarning over 2 times, insert hook in back loop of specified sc on Rnd 3 (Snowflake) before inserting hook in specified stitch on Rnd 5 (Background), yarn over, pull up a loop, [yarn over, draw thru 2 loops] Do this 3 times. Now you’ve just join the 2 parts together with a TC. Only also work into back loop or sc on Rnd 3 (Snowflake) when specified. At the end of the Rnd all the back loops of the sc on Rnd 3 should be worked into.

Rnd 6: Ch3, 2 TC in same st as joining, 1 TC in next st also going thru back loop of 3rd sc ( or first sc your come to) on Rnd 3 (Snowflake), 1 TC in next st also going thru back loop of next sc on Rnd 3, 2 TC in next st, [ch1, 2 TC in next st, 1 TC in next st also going thru back loop of next sc on Rnd 3, 1 TC in next st also going thru back loop of next sc on Rnd3, 2 TC in next st] Do this 5 times, ch1, join with sl st to first TC.
(36 TC, 6-ch1 spaces) (Beginning ch3 does not count as TC)

Note: On Rnd 7 you’ll join the Picots (of Rnd 3) to the Background to square to keep them from curling up. You’ll do this by inserting hook in specified Picot before inserting hook into specified ch1 space (of Rnd 6), yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull thru both loops on hook. Now you’ve just join the Picot to the Back ground with a sc. Only also work in Picot when specified. By the end of the Rnd all the Picots should be worked into.
