This crochet Llama applique is about 3-3/4” tall.
Yarn:
Sport weight #2 yarn. I used:
Patons Grace cotton yarn (100% mercerized cotton), Color A for the llama, Color B and Color C for the blanket on the llama’s back.
Hook and other materials:
Crochet hook 1/2.75 mm
Instructions:
Although it may not be obvious, the Llama consists of 3 hearts that are sewn together.
The first heart also has the neck, head and front leg, then there is the central heart that represents a blanket on the Llama, and lastly, the third heart that also has the back leg and tail.
First Heart
With color A, Ch 4;
Round 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, DC, TR (Heart point), DC, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Round 2. Ch 3, SC into first St, Ch 11, Sl St in 2nd Ch from hook, Sl St in next – first Ear made,
Ch 3, Sl St in 2nd Ch from hook, Sl St in next – second Ear made,
Ch 3, HDC in 3rd Ch, DC in next St (base of second Ear), DC in next St (base of first Ear), HDC2tog, DC in each of next 6 Chs, 2 DC in same St where Ch 11 started, skip 1, SC into each of next 6 Sts;
Leg – Ch 6, SC into 2nd Ch from hook, 2 SC in next Ch, SC in each of next 3 Chs; SC in same St where Leg was started, SC into each of next 4 Sts, 2 SC into next 2 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Fasten off.
Third Heart
With color A, Ch 4;
Round 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, DC, TR (Heart point), DC, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Round 2. Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, SC in each of next 5 Sts;
Leg – Ch 6, SC into 2nd Ch from hook, 2 SC in next Ch, SC in each of next 3 Chs;
SC in same St where Leg was started, SC into each of next 4 Sts, 2 SC into next St, SC in next St,
Tail – Ch 3, HDC in 2nd Ch and in next Ch, SC in same St, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Fasten off.
Middle Heart
With color B, Ch 4;
Round 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, DC, TR (Heart point), DC, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Cut off color B.
Round 2. Draw color C through the center of the heart, Ch 3, Sl St in 1st St, *Ch 1, Sl St in next – repeat from * around, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Fasten off.
Finishing
Sew the first and third heart by slightly overlapping them. Sew the middle heart on.
Embroider the eye.
Crochet short chain (I made Ch 4) for the necklace and sew it on.
Block your crochet Llama applique as necessary.
