Crochet Mittens for Newborn
You’ll need:
100% cotton yarn;
Crochet hook (depends on the chosen yarn).
Instructions
Make 4 chain sts, slip st in the 1st chain st. Crochet around from tip of fingers to wrist.
1st row: 2 chain sts increase, 7 single crochets, slip st = 8 sts;
2nd row: 2 chain sts increase, 2 single crochets in every st = 16 sts;
3rd row: 2 chain sts increase, single crochets, increase 1/3 of all the sts, slip sts = 24 sts;
4th and 5th rows: increase 2 sts in every row;
6th row: increase 4 sts = 32 sts.
If necessary, make several rows without increases.
When you reach the needed width of mitten, make 7-10 rows of single crochets without increases. Don’t forget to start each row with chain sts increase and finish with slip st!
For making your mitten oval, you should make decreases due to the following description: 2 sts x 2 in every 2nd row. Continue working this way until you get the wrist level.
Make several rows of rib or double crochets and make nice fringes by means of contrast color yarn. Cut the yarn and tighten the st.
Make the second mitten in the same way.
In order to your mittens don’t slip for the laps, insert cords or laces in the holes of pattern at the level of wrist, form a button-hole from chain st and sew button in 2-3 cm from it.
