My Multi-Strand Specialty

Jun 24, 2021 12:18 PM

These blankets work up fast but it takes experience with making a few of them to get good at it. I usually use 4 strands of different types of yarns. I look for texture more than color but this one I made for my Grandson who is 25.  He loves red. So I concentrated on different textures of red and black yarns. Then used a bulky black for the border.

I don't really know how to write a pattern.  But you just start out with a rectangle of single crochet and stitch in rounds. My corners are 2stitches plus 2 chains and 2 more stitches of your choice.  You'll want to choose a simple stitch cause you want to showcase your yarns. Patterns get lost and juggling multiple yarns is an artform.  So, I normally use a sc or a dc. There are challenges like the yarns getting tangled but if you put each skien in its own bag it cuts down on some of that. Also need to watch for the end of the skien to tie on the next skien of yarn. It doesn't have to be the same yarn either or even the same texture.  Some of my most beautiful multi strand afghans have been made with scrap yarn with no plan or pattern and it creates a beautiful mosaic effect. I hope you give it a try and good luck. God bless...

p.s. I use a size P or larger hook.

I think it's quite nice I would like to know what kind of stitch you used? Thanks for answering

I used a size P/10mm Hook and used a half double crochet stitch throughout.

Hi Susan… have you tried your hand at making a multi strand afghan? I just finished another one for a friend's nephew and it turned out great and only took 4 days to crochet but I still have to block it. I will take pictures and send it to you when it's finished entirely.
