20″ opening at the top, 35″ opening at the bottom, 12″ tall in the front.
Yarn: 1 skein of Knit Picks Brava in Peapod (100% acrylic; 100g/ 218 yards; medium weight)
Hook: I/5.5mm hook (or hook to obtain gauge)
This cowl is worked flat for the first 18 rows and then in the round for the remaining rounds.
Gauge: 14 dc by 7 rows in pattern = 4” square (blocked)
Abbreviations
Ch = chain
St = stitch
Dc = double crochet
Instructions
Row 1: Make an adjustable ring, ch 2 (does NOT count as a st), 6 dc in the ring, pull the ring closed. -6
Row 2: Ch 2 (does NOT count as a st from here on), turn, 2 dc in each dc across. -12
Row 3: Ch 2, turn, *(dc, ch 1) in the 1st st, dc in the next st; repeat from * across. -18
Row 4: Ch 2, turn, dc in the 1st st, *(dc, ch 1) in the ch-1 space, dc in each st to the next ch-1 space; repeat from * across. -24
Row 5: Ch 2, *dc in each st to the next ch-1 space, (dc, ch 1) in the ch-1 space; repeat from * across, dc in each remaining st. -30
Repeat row 5 until you have 18 total rows. -108
You will now start working in the round, remove all stitch markers.
Round 1: Ch 2, turn, dc in each st around, join to the 1st st with slip st. -108
Round 2:Ch 2, turn, *skip 1 st, dc in the next, dc in the last skipped st; repeat from * around, join to the 1st st with slip st. -108
Round 3: Repeat round 1.
Round 4: Repeat round 2.
Round 5: Repeat round 1.
You can repeat round 2 and 1 more times if you’d like a larger cowl.
Fasten off, block, weave in ends.
