​Crochet Rug with Tassels

You’ll need:

5 skeins of Universal Yarn Clean Cotton Big (85% recycled cotton, 15% recycled polyester, 200g/55 yds) in 103 Beach Resort (MC);

2 skeins of the same yarn, but in 205 Tropics (CC);

Crochet hook 10 mm;

Tapestry needle.

Size: length (excluding tassels): 31¼”, width: 22”

Stitches control: 8 sts x 4 rows = 4”


Special Stitches

Shells (Begins as multiple of 8 chs, plus 4)

Row 1: Dc in 6th ch from hk (counts as dc, ch 1), * ch 1, sk next ch, dc in next ch; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), * sk next 2 ch-1 spaces, [3dc, ch 2, 3dc] in next dc, sk next 2 ch-1 spaces, dc in next dc; rep from * across, ending with dc in top of turning ch, turn.

Row 3: Ch 6 (counts as dc, ch 3), * sk next 3dc group, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, sk next 3dc group, dc in next dc, ch 3; rep from * to end of row, ending with dc in top of turning ch, turn.

Row 4: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1 here and throughout), * dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, dc in next sc, ch 1; rep from * across ending with dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn.

Row 5: Ch 3 , *dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc; rep from * across, ending with dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn.

Row 6: Ch 4, sk next dc, dc in next dc, * ch 1, sk next dc, dc in next dc; rep from * across, ending with dc in top of turning ch.

Repeat 2nd-6th rows.


Instructions

Rug

With MC, ch 44.

Row 1: Work Row 1 of Shells patt.

Row 2: Work Row 2 of Shells patt.

Row 3: Work Row 3 of Shells patt.

Row 4: Work Row 4 of Shells patt.

Row 5: Work Row 5 of Shells patt.

Row 6: Work Row 6 of Shells patt.

Repeat 2nd-6th rows x 4 times.

Fasten off.


Assembly

Weave in ends.

Edging Step 1: With CC and beg at any corner, * 3 sc into corner sp, 50 sc along long edge, 3 sc into corner sp, 37 sc along short edge; rep from * 1 more time – 186 sc. Sl st into 1st sc to join in the rnd.

Step 2: Sc in each sc around. Fasten off. Tassels (make 14) Wrap CC around 6” piece of cardboard, 8 times. Cut yarn at one end of cardboard. Cut 2 pieces of yarn, 8” long. Loop one piece around tassel at the top (un-cut) end, securing strands. Carefully slide tassel off cardboard. Wrap the other 8” piece of yarn around Tassel approx. ½” from top end several times. Hide ends of this piece inside Tassel. Sew 7 tassels to each short edge of Rug, taking care to space them evenly. Trim tassels to 3¼”.
