Start and finish every row with selvage st.

1st row (RS): 18 knit sts;

2nd row (WS): 4 purls, 1 purl with yarn over, 8 purls, 1 purl with yarn over, 4 purls;

3rd row (RS): 4 knit sts, cable 1 * 4 left, cable 1 * 4 right, 4 knit sts.

Repeat 2nd-3rd rows.
