You’ll need:

1(2, 2, 2) skeins (including pom pom) of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick Variegated – 16ply/Super Chunky/Super Bulky (6), 80m/140g, 80% Acrylic + 20% Wool, Arctic Ice (548);

Crochet hook 12 mm;

Darning needle;

Scissors.

Size

Child to fit approx. 45-48cm head circumference

Teen to fit approx. 48-53cm head circumference

Adult Woman to fit approx. 53-59cm head circumference

Adult Man to fit approx. 56-61cm head circumference

Stitches control: 8 sts x 5,5 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Ch 21(23, 23, 25).

*Note: For a slouchier fit add 2 – 6 chains to your foundation chain. If you don’t want a brim remove 2 – 4 chains from your foundation chain.

ROW 1: HDC into 2nd ch from the hook, HDC in each ch across, turn.

ROW 2: Ch 1, BL HDC in each st until last st, HDC in last st.

Repeat ROW 2 until ROW 21(22, 24, 26).

Rectangle should measure (height x width) –

Child: 25 x 38.5 cm

Teen: 27.5 x 40cm

Adult Woman: 27.5 x 45cm

Adult Man: 30 x 50cm

*Note: wrap your rectangle around your head (lines should fall vertically), add/remove rows to make your beanie looser/tighter.

Fold the short sides of your beanie into the centre. Sew the two sides together, tie a knot and weave in your end.

Whip stitch (place approx. one stitch for each row) along the top edge of your beanie.

Make sure you pick up at least 2 strands of yarn for a sturdy stitch.

Pull the stitches tight after every few rows.

When you are back at the beginning of your whip stitches, pull the top of your beanie as tight as possible to close the hole. If the top is still open, stitch the hole closed.

Weave in your ends.

Optional: You can top your beanie off with a faux fur pom pom or make your own!

To attach your pom pom, have the right side turned out to face and thread the ends through the top of the beanie. Tie the ends together and weave them along the wrong side of the beanie.
