You'll need:
Worsted weight yarn in red, white, and black (Red Heart SuperSavers);
Crochet hook 4,25 mm;
Small button;
Yarn needle;
Sewing needle.
Size
Height: 15cm.
Width: 9cm.
Stitches control: 4 sc per 2.5cm, 16 rows per 10cm.
Instructions
Magic Ring
A few inches from the end of the yarn, wrap two loops over your finger. While the loops
still on your finger, insert the hook from right to left into the loops and pull the working yarn through.
Carefully take the loops off your fingers and chain one. This doesn't count as the first stitch.
Insert the hook into the two loops again and pull up a loop. Yarn over and draw through both loops. This counts as the first single crochet stitch. Continue for the rest of the stitches. Then pull the yarn tail to close the hole.
Cozy
When dropping colors on the wrong side, make sure to keep it on the wrong side of the work.
Leave a 94cm tail at the beginning for sewing.
With red yarn,
R1: Ch 25, sk st, sc in the next 24 sts. Ch1, turn. (24 sts)
R2: Sc across. Change to white yarn and fasten off red yarn. Ch 1, turn.
R3: Sc in 9 sts. Change to red yarn and drop white yarn, sc in next 6 sts.
Change to white yarn and drop red yarn, sc in 9 sts. Ch 1, turn.
R4-5: Sc in 10 sts. Change to red yarn and drop white yarn, sc in next 4 sts.
Change to white yarn and drop red yarn, sc in 10 sts. Ch 1, turn. (2 rows)
R6-8: Sc in 11 sts. Change to red yarn and drop white yarn, sc in next 2 sts.
Change to white yarn and drop red yarn, sc in 11 sts. Ch 1, turn. (3 rows)
R9: Sc in 11 sts. Change to red yarn and drop white yarn, sc2tog. Change to white yarn and drop red yarn, sc in 11 sts. Ch 1, turn. (23 sts)
R10-11: Sc in 11 sts. Change to red yarn and drop white yarn, sc in next st.
Change to white yarn and drop red yarn, sc in 11 sts. Ch 1, turn. (2 rows)
R12: Sc in 11 sts. Change to red yarn and drop white yarn, sc in next st.
Change to white yarn and fasten off red yarn leaving 16“ / 41cm long tail for stitching along the edges of the color changes to create a neat edge, sc in 11 sts. Change to red yarn and fasten off white yarn. Ch 1, turn.
R13-28: Sc in next 23 sts. Ch 1, turn. (16 rows)
R29: Sc in next 23 sts.
Fasten off.
Weave in the ends. Fold and sew along the long side and then the short side.
Nose
With black yarn,
R1: 6 sc into magic ring.
R2: *Sc2tog* rep to end. (3 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Sew nose onto the cozy.
Eyes (Make 2)
With black yarn,
R1: 6 sc into magic ring.
R2: 2 sc in the first st. (7 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Sew eyes onto the cozy.
Ears (Make 2)
With red yarn,
R1: Ch 9, sk st, sc in next 8 sts. Ch 1, turn. (8 sts)
R2: Sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (6 sts)
R3: Sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog. Ch 1, turn. (4 sts)
R4: Sc in next 4 sts. Ch 1, turn.
R5: *Sc2tog* rep to end. Ch 1, turn. (2 sts)
R6: Sc2tog. (1 st)
Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
Ear Edging
Make slipknot and insert hook into the bottom right corner of the ear. Sc 5 sts along the edge towards the ear tip. 3 sc into the top corner, sc 5 sts.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew ears onto the top of the cozy.
Strap
Mark 6 center sts on the right side of the cozy with pins or stitch markers. With red yarn, make slipknot and insert hook into the side of the work starting at the right.
R1: Sc in next 6 sts. Ch 1, turn. (6 sts)
R2-4: Sc in next 6 sts. Ch 1, turn. (3 rows)
R5: Sc, sc2tog, ch 2, sc2tog, sc. Ch 1, turn. (4 sts + 2 ch)
R6: Sc in 2 sts, 2 sc into the ch 2 space, sc in 2 sts. (6 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in the ends. Sew on the button on the back of the cozy.
