​Racoon Child Scarf

You'll need:

Any yarn of white, black and grey colors;

Knitting needles due to the chosen yarn;

Needle with big eye.

Garter stitch: all knit sts;

1x1 rib.

Instructions

Tail

Tail consists of 2 parts: tip of the tail from black yarn (see scheme 1) and striped part of tail (see scheme 2). Start with the tip.

Cast on 3 sts and knit, making increases: 1 st after the st and before the last st on the right side. Make increases from broachings. Repeat these actions to the 32rd row.

There are 33 sts on the knitting needles. There are no selvedge sts, all sts are in work.

Continue work with straight cloth, alternate the colors of stripes: 8 rows of grey yarn, 8 rows of black etc.

Rib

Continue work with grey yarn. Make 32 rows of rib.

Edging sts in this detail are selvedge sts: slip the 1st st, make the last as purl. This part of scarf is the most narrow and it'll be thrown through the loop.

Body

Then, make 33 sts of garter stitch. Decide on the length of your scarf.

Head

Make in the shape of triangle (as tail). But in places of increases, make decreases: after the 1st st and before the last sts. Knit 2 sts in 1 st. Use scheme 5.

1st-6th rows - grey yarn. In the next row make the face of your racoon: 12 sts of white yarn - brow, 3 sts of grey yarn - the middle of face, 12 sts of white yarn - the second brow.

Mask

Alternate black and grey yarn threads on 10 rows. When there are 15 sts left, make cheeks, alternating grey and white yarn. Make nose on the rest 7 sts: 2 sts with white yarn, 3 sts with black yarn, 2 sts with white yarn. After decreases, in the next row: 1 st of white yarn, 3 sts of black yarn, 1 st of white yarn. Cut the white yarn, weave in the end. Finish the nose with 3 sts of black yarn.

Make 2 such details. Make the second one in reflection to the first.

Ears

Lift 14 sts from the 1st row of head and 14 edging sts. On the scheme these are 1st-14th sts and 20th-33rd sts.

Make ears with black yarn on every 14 sts. Decrease sts in right rows, knitting 2 sts in 1 st.

Shape and size of ears are up to you.
