Cast on a multiple of 4 sts + 2.

Row 1 - right side: K1, * k3, k1, wrapping yarn twice around needle; repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 2: K1, * sl 1 wyif, dropping extra wrap, k3; repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 3: K1, * k3, sl 1 wyib; repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 4: K1, * sl 1 wyif, k3; repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 5: K1, * sl 3 wyib, drop next slip st off left-hand needle to front of work, slip the same 3 sts back to the left-hand needle, then pick up dropped st and knit wrapping the yarn twice around the needle, k3; repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 6: K1, * k3, sl 1 wyif, dropping extra wrap; repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 7: K1, * sl 1 wyib, k3; repeat from * last st, k1.

Row 8: K1, * k3, sl 1 wyif, repeat from * to last st, k1.

Row 9: K1, * drop next slip st off left-hand needle to front of work, k3, then pick up dropped st and knit wrapping the yarn twice around the needle; repeat from * to last st, k1.

Repeat rows 2-9.
