Yarn: Yarnspirations. Patons Inspired. 5.3 oz (150 g) and 222 yds (203 m). 75% Acrylic, 25% Wool. Bulky Weight Yarn [5]. Machine wash in cold water. Tumble dry delicate. Do not iron, bleach or dry clean.

I substituted an alternate starting double crochet stitch for the initial ch 3 in my project. If you’d like to try this stitch view the tutorial at the end of the pattern.
When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.

Honey Spiced Scarf Crochet Pattern
This bulky crochet scarf is crocheted widthwise in rows.
Using your 7 mm crochet hook (or size required for gauge):
R1: RS: Ch 18, sk the first ch 1 sc in each rem ch across, turn. [17 sc]
R2: Ch 1, 1 sc in the first st. *1 tr in the next st, 1 sc in the next st**. Work from * to ** across, turn. [9 sc, 8 tr]
R3: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st across, turn. [17 sc]
R4-R7: Rep R2 and R3
R8-R12: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in each st across, turn. [17 dc]

The Honey Spiced Scarf does well with a little soak and blocking. I used Soak Wash (Celebration) for my scarf. Just 1 tsp in a gallon of water and I let it soak for 15 minutes, squeezed the excess water out (rolled it up in a towel to do this) and then I blocked it with a few stainless steel pins on my blocking board. It relaxed the fabric (super soft to the touch) and it smells terrific! My scarf is ready to give as a gift.

Below you will find the images for the first 17 rows of the project. All the other rows are the same as these rows.
Things to remember:
Odd numbered rows face the right side (RS).
After crocheting the treble stitches in an even numbered row, pop them through to the RS of the project. They usually do this on their own but occasionally you will have one that does not cooperate and you must nudge it to the right side before continuing onto the next row of the project.
Make the single crochet stitches that follow the treble crochet stitches a normal single crochet size – do not let the treble stitch pull the single crochet taller than it would be normally. If the single crochet stitches are too loose, your treble stitches will not create the little bumps of texture you want for the project.
Alternate Starting Double Crochet Stitch Tutorial
I tried a new technique to start my rows of double crochet for this bulky yarn crochet project. You can chain 3 to start, as I’ve written in the pattern, or even chain 2 and then work your first double crochet in the very first stitch (just remember not to work into that chain 2 or you’ll add stitches for each row of double crochet you work).
This Alternate Start is pretty easy to do – it removes the gap at the beginning of the row which I do like and is a bit less bulky than the chain 2 and double crochet in the first stitch. So if you’d like to try it I’ve included the steps below.
Chain 1
Insert your hook under the top 2 loops of the chain 1
Yarn over
Pull up 1 loop
Insert your hook into the first stitch of the row, yarn over
Pull up 1 loop
Yarn over
And pull through 2 loops
Yarn over
And pull through the remaining 2 loops
You can use any yarn and hook to make this project!
With the yarn and hook you’ve chosen for the project, chain until you reach the width you’d like for your scarf (shawl, or blanket); or chain until your width measures 7 inches.
Check that your number of chains can be divided by 2 evenly (to match the stitch multiple).
Follow the pattern as written.
Continue crocheting until your project is the length you would like it to be, or until it measures approximately 67 inches long.
NOTE: If you are making a different length project remember to add one extra set of textured stitches (the section repeat of R14 with the treble stitches and R15 with the row of single crochet stitches in the project) before you finish off. The last section of the pattern has 3 repeats of R14 and R15.
Finish off and weave in your ends.
