Supplies Needed for This Little Crochet Chick:
Yarn in your desired bird color and contrasting yarn scraps for the beak
A corresponding crochet hook to go with your yarn thickness
Safety eyes (though you can embroider the eyes too, or glue on little black felt discs)
Embroidery needles for assembly and beak
Stuffing (we like to recycle old cushions)
MM Hook size really is important for crochet – if your hook is too large, it will result in loose crochet that doesn’t look very neat! So if in doubt, use a slightly smaller crochet hook.

Making the Little Bird’s Body
- 01: 6 sc in mc [6]
- 02: 6 inc [12]
- 03: (1 sc, inc) x6 [18]
- 04 – 05: 18 sc [18]
- 06: 8 sc, 3 hdc inc, 7 sc [21]
- 07 – 08: 21 sc [21]
- 09: 9 sc, 3 dec, 6 sc [18]
- Place eyes between rounds 4 and 5, 4-5 stitches apart.
- 10: (1 sc, dec) x6 [12]
- 11: 6 dec [6]
- Fasten off, stuff and seal hole.
Making the Bird’s Wings – Make 2
- 01: Ch 4 [4]
- 02: Skip 1st stitch, Slst, 2 sc, start working on the other side of the ch, 2 sc, Slst [6]
- Fasten off and leave long tail for sewing. Sew left wing and right wing between rounds 5 and 6 on both sides of the body.
Bird's Beak:
