Materials:

2 skeins of nylon yarn or this one (200 gr – 183m)
5 mm crochet hook
20 cm zipper

sewing needle and yarn needle

Abbreviation:

ch: chain

sl st: slip stitch

sc: single crochet

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

R: row

Pattern:

We will start by making a chain base of 43 stitches.

Row 1: starting from the second loop from the hook: 42 hdc. (42)

note: I recommend you to go through the loops that are behind the stitches to make the 1st row more solid and pretty looking.

This will be our top and bottom total number of stitches and should measure 28 cm long.

Take note of the following sketch:

Cosmetic Crochet Bag Schema

Row 2 to 8: ch1 then turn your work, 42 hdc (42).

At the end of row 8, you should have a large rectangle of 28 cm width on 6,4 cm length.

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends. I recommend you to weave the ends as you go because there’s going to have quite a few of them. If you are like me and hate weaving it, do it progressively so it won’t be a burden later on.

Take your rectangle and count 11 stitches starting from the right, mark with a stitch marker your 11th stitch. Those 11 stitches measure 7 cm long.

Do the same exact thing on the left side of the rectangle.

You should now have a total of 20 stitches between the 2 stitch markers, and those 20 stitches should measure 14 cm long. We will now work in those 20 stitches.

Row 9: Starting from the right side of it, join yarn is the first stitch and make a ch 1. In this same stitch, make 1 hdc.

1 hdc in each of the 19 reamining stitches. (20)

Row 10 to 26: ch1 then turn your work, 20 hdc (20).

At the end of row 26, don’t cut the yarn just yet, after your last stitch of the round, ch 11. Now you may cut the yarn and fasten off.

You should have a length of 14 cm with those 18 rows of 20 stitches.

Join the yarn with a sl st in the 1st stitch of row 26, then ch 12.

Row 27: starting from the second loop from the hook: 11 hdc in the 11 loops we just made, 20 hdc in the middle part, then 11 hdc in the ch 11 we made at the end of row 26. (42)

Row 28 to 44: ch1 then turn your work, 42 hdc (42).

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

We will make the same thing we did previously after row 8, leave 11 stitches on the right and left sides, and work the next rows only on the 20 stitches in the middle.

Row 45: Join yarn with a sl st in the 1 stitch of the 20, then starting this same exact stitch make: 20 hdc (20).

Row 46 to 62: ch1 then turn your work, 20 hdc (20).

At the end of row 62, don’t cut the yarn, after your last stitch of the round, ch 11. Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Join the yarn again with a sl st in the 1st stitch of row 62, then ch 12.

And just like we did before:

Row 63: starting from the second loop from the hook: 11 hdc in the 11 loops we just made, 20 hdc in the middle part, then 11 hdc in the ch 11 we made at the end of row 62. (42)

Row 64 to 70: ch1 then turn your work, 42 hdc (42).

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

You are done with the big part of the bag. Now it’s the sewing part!

Sew the zipper, one side of it on the 1st row (which is your bottom), the other side on the 70th row (which is your top). Place the zipper in the middle of it, in a way where you have the same length left on the right and left sides of your bottom and top.

Once you finished sewing your zipper, fold the side of your cosmetic bag to give it a cube shape, and sew with the yarn you used and a yarn needle, every part where it is needed to close your pouch.

At this point you made the big part of your cosmetic bag. You can make a tassel and sew it on the zipper.

Front net

Ch 18

Row 1: starting from the second loop from the hook: 17 hdc. (17)

Row 2: Ch 1, then turn. 2 hdc, [ch 4, sl st in next stitch, 1 sc in the next one] repeat this until you have 2 stitches left, at the last repetition of the pattern between the [] make only (ch4, sl st in next stitch), then in the last 2 stitches make 1 hdc in each of them. (you should have a total of 7 loops made out of the ch 4).

Row 3: Ch 1, then turn. 2 hdc, sc in the first loop space, [ch 4, sl st in the next loop space] repeat this 5 times, at the 5th time make a sc instead of a sl st in the loop space, 2 hdc. (you should have a total of 6 loops).

Row 4 to 10: Ch 1, then turn. 2 hdc, sc in the first loop space, [ch 4, sl st in the next loop space] repeat this 5 times, at the 5th time make your ch4 and make a sc in the 1st sc of the previous row, 2 hdc. (you should always have a total of 6 loops).

Row 11: Ch 1, then turn. 2 hdc, [sc in the loop space, ch 1] repeat this 6 times, sc in the next stitch, 2 hdc. (17 – ch1 count as stitches)

Row 12: Ch 1, don’t turn! 17 reverse sc – remember that the ch 1 count as stitches – (17).

Cut the yarn and weave in the ends.

Sew the pocket net in the front of the bag, be sure to not sew the top of the pocket.

Side Handle

Ch 6

Row 1: starting from the second loop from the hook: 5 hdc. (5)

Row 2 to 18: Ch 1, then turn, 5 hdc (5)

Cut yarn and fasten off. Sew the handle on one of the side of the cosmetic bag.
