Materials:

  • YarnArt Jeans: green (no 69), light pink (no 18), white, yellow (no 67)
  • Safety eyes 5 mm (you may crochet the eyes - see PUPIL section)
  • Crochet hook 2 mm
  • Crochet hook 1 mm (for the crochet pupil)
  • Black floss (for the smile)
  • Keychain ring
  • Stuffing
  • Tapestry needle and sharp needle
  • Scissors.

Abbreviations (USA terminology):

  • MR = magic ring
    • st = stitch
    • sl st = slip stitch
    • ch = chain
    • sc = single crochet
    • dc = double crochet
    • inc = increase (2 sc in one st)
    • dec = decrease (sc2tog)
    • (..) = repeat the pattern particular number of times
    • [..] = complete number of st in the round / row
    • rnd = round
  • The finished frog is approx. 10 cm (4 inches) tall.

    HEAD & BODY

    YarnArt Jeans green no 69.

    Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
    (Instead of MR you may start with ch 2 and insert the hook in 2nd st from the hook and crochet 6 sc).

    Rnd 3: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
    Rnd 4: (1 sc, inc, 1 sc) x 6 [24]
    Rnd 5: (3 sc, inc) x 6 [30]
    Rnd 6: (2 sc, inc, 2 sc) x 6 [36]
    Rnd 7-11: 36 sc [36]
    Rnd 12: (2 sc, dec, 2 sc) x 6 [30]
    Rnd 13: (3 sc, dec) x 6 [24]
    Rnd 14: (1 sc, dec, 1 sc) x 6 [18]
    Rnd 15: (1 sc, dec) x 6 [12]
    Stuff the head.
    Rnd 16: (1 sc, inc) x 6 [18]
    Rnd 17: (1 sc, inc, 1 sc) x 6 [24]
    Rnd 18-23: 24 sc [24]
    Rnd 24: (1 sc, dec, 1 sc) x 6 [18]

    EYE (make 2)

    YarnArt Jeans white.
    Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
    Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]
    Change yarn to green (I work invisible finish before changing the yarn).
    Rnd 3-5: 12 sc [12]
    Insert safety eyes (I use the eyes 5 mm in diameter).
    Stuff the eyes if needed.
    Rnd 6: 6 dec [6]

    Distance between eyes = 3 rounds. Sew the eyes on the top of the head in 4-5 rnds.
    I recommend you to watch the tutorial.

    Crochet pupil

    Crochet hook 1 mm.
    Black floss.
    Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
    Tie up the yarn ends inside the eye (on wrong side) together with white yarn ends.

    PALM & ARM (make 2)

    YarnArt Jeans green no 69.
    Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
    Rnd 2: (1 sc, inc) x 3 [9]
    Rnd 3: (1 sc, dec) x 3 [6]
    Rnd 4: 3 dec [3]
    Stuff the palm if needed.
    Work sl st through the top of the palm and crochet ch 5 to make the arm. Join the arm with the body, crocheting sl st.
    Hide loose yarn ends.
    Attach the arms between rounds 16-17 of the body.

    FOOT & LEG (make 2)

    YarnArt Jeans green no 69.
    Rnd 1: 6 sc in MR [6]
    Rnd 2: 6 inc [12]
    Rnd 3: 12 sc [12]
    Rnd 4: (1 sc, dec) x 4 [8]
    Rnd 5: 4 dec [4]
    Stuff the foot if needed.
    Work sl st through the top of the foot and crochet ch 6 to make the leg. Join the leg with the body, crocheting sl st.
    Hide loose yarn ends.
    Attach the legs between rounds 24-25 of the body.

    CROWN

    Start with ch 8, join in the round.
    Rnd 1: 8 sc [8]
    Rnd 2: (1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc) in one st, skip the next st. Repeat the pattern 4 times.

    Embroidering the smile and cheeks

    Red pins (photo below) are between rounds 9-10; distance between pins approx. 7 sts.
