Caterpillar Stripes
With C2 and a 5 mm hook
Stripes are worked across the top of the caterpillar using surface crochet.
Stripe 1: Insert hook and join yarn with a sl st, 4 to 5 sts lower than the height of the eye, in Rnd 13. Working across the top of the caterpillar surface crochet until you are the same distance under the eye as the beginning of the row.
Fasten off.
Repeat instructions for Stripe 1 on each marked rnd. You will have 2 stripes between the head and the second segment, and 3 stripes on all remaining segments.
Weave in all ends.
Nose
With an 8” piece of C1 and a tapestry needle
Insert needle between Rnd 2 and Rnd 3, one st off of center between the eyes, and out one st off of center on the other side, leaving 2 sts between where the needle went in and came out.
The two center sts will be covered by the nose. Pull the yarn through leaving a tail on the end to weave in later. Insert back into and out of the same two sts 3 times. Weave in ends.
Eyebrows
With a 10” piece of C1 and a 5 mm hook
Surface crochet eyebrows across 4 sts above the safety eye.
Fasten off and repeat for second eye. Weave in ends.

Add fiber filling to each leg and attach at an angle to the bottom of the body. You should be able to see them from the top of the caterpillar.
Attach 2 legs to each side of each body segment, there will be no legs on the head segment.
Optional: Use straight pins to hold each leg in place to get proper placement before sewing.

Rnd 3: Sc around, stuff lightly with poly-fil.

Rnd 5: Sc blo around.
Rnd 6: Sc 5, dec. (6 sts)
Rnd 7: Sc around.
Fasten off.
Attach one antenna to each side on the top of the head, just above the eyes.
Optional: Use straight pins to hold each antenna in place to get proper placement before sewing.
Finishing Touches
With a 12” piece of C1 and a tapestry needle, insert one st in and one round down from the eye and out one st in and one row down from the second eye, leaving an even tail on both ends.
With the tail that has the needle attached, insert one st down from the st the yarn is coming out of, and through to the same st on the opposite side.
Remove the needle from the yarn and thread the other tail onto the needle.
Insert the needle into the same st as the tail you just pulled through, and out to the same st on the opposite eye.
Pull gently to create an indent, and shape the face.
Weave in both ends.
