Crochet Mother’s Day Flower and Vase

Materials

  • DK or 8ply yarn in yellow, pink, blue and green (optional)
  • 3.5 crochet hook
  • Stitch marker, tapestry needle and scissors
  • Metal wire or green pipe cleaner

  • Abbreviation used (
    U.S. terms)

    ch: chain

    sl st: slip stitch

    sc: single crochet

    *…*: repeat

    inc: 2 single crochet in the same stitch

    dec: single crochet 2 stitches together through the front loop only (invisible decrease)

    BLO: back loop only

    FLO: front loop only

    All pieces are worked through both loops of the stitches and in the round without joining unless stated otherwise in the pattern. It is recommended to use a stitch marker to mark the end of each round.

    Flower centre – in yellow make 1

    Work in rounds

    Round 1. sc 6 in a magic ring

    Round 2. inc x6

    Round 3. in the BLO, sc in each st around

    Round 4. dec x6

    Fasten off and weave in the ends.

    Flower petals – in pink make 1

    Work in rounds. Attach the yarn to any of the leftover front loops from round 2 of the flower centre.

    Round 1. sc in each st around

    Round 2. in the FLO, *sl st 1, ch 3, starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, sl st 2* x12

    Round 3. in the BLO of round 1, *sl st 1, ch 4, starting from the 2nd ch from the hook, sl st 3* x12, sl st in the last st again

    Fasten off and weave in the ends.

    Vase – in blue make 1

    Work in rounds

    Round 1. sc 6 in a magic ring

    Round 2. inc x6

    Round 3. *sc 1, inc* x6

    Round 4. in the BLO, sc in each st around

    Rounds 5-10. sc in each st around

    Round 11. *sc 4, dec* x3

    Round 12. *sc 3, dec* x3

    Round 13. *sc 2. dec* x3

    Rounds 14-16. sc in each st around.

    Fasten off leaving and weave in ends.

    Assembly

    1. You will now have several options to create a stem. I used some metal wire and knotted green yarn around it, but green pipe cleaners would also look great. If you do not want to knot your yarn, you can also wrap yarn around a wire for the stem, securing it with glue.

    2. Place your finished flower into its vase.

    You are done!
