Crochet Cup Holder Pattern Notes
- Please kindly read through the pattern before starting.
- The pattern can be made using any #4 yarn weight
- Chains at the beginning of the rows do not count as a stitch.

Single Crochet – sc
Half Double Crochet – hdc

Special Stitch
Crossed double crochet (xdc)
First row of xdc = *Skip next st, dc in next st, crocheting over the dc just made into the skipped st, yarn over, insert hook into skipped stitch and yarn over (3 loops on the hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through the remaining 2 loops
Rep from * to the end
Subsequent rows/rounds of xdc =
*Skip the first leg of xdc and ch sp, dc in the second leg of xdcl, crocheting over the dc just made into the first leg of xdc, yarn over, insert hook into skipped stitch and yarn over (3 loops on the hook), yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over, pull through the remaining 2 loops
Rep from * to the end.
How to crochet a cup holder
Chain 36, join with a sl st to the beginning chain to form a circle.
Round 1: Ch 2, hdc in each ch around, join. 36 hdc
Note: Fit check.
- Pass your cup through the piece just made. It should be firm.
- If it is too loose, reduce the starting chain in a multiple of 2.
- If it is too tight, increase the number of chains in multiple of 2.
Round 2: Ch 3, *skip next st, dc in next st, crocheting around the dc just made, dc in the skipped st, rep from *to the end, join. 18 xdc
Rounds 3 – 7: Repeat round 2.
Round 8: Ch 2, hdc in each ch around, join. 18 hdc
Do not fasten off.
Handle
Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in next 3 sts, turn. 3hdc
Rows 2 – 32: Rep row 1
Increase or decrease the number of rows for a longer or shorter strap.
Do not fasten off.
To join the strap to the cup cozy.
Step 1: Count 15 sts away from the strap. This point should be on the other side of the cozy’s body.
Step 2: Note the stitch with a stitch marker.
Step 3: With a sl st, join the handle to the 16th, 17th and 18th stitches on the cozy.
Adjust the numbers if you have made a different foundation chain.
Edging
Crocheting around the handle and the last row on the strap.
Join yarn with a sl st at any point on the strap.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join.
Row 2: Ch 1, sl st around.
Fasten off.
Repeat Rows 1 – 2 on the other side of the strap.
