Crochet Star Ornament

The star measures approx. 12 cm (4.7 inches) in diameter.

Materials used:
  • Sport weight yarn, size 2 - fine. I used Nako Fiore 25% linen, 35% cotton, 40% bamboo viscose yarn. 5 grams (15 metres approx.) of yarn needed for this pattern.
  • 3mm crochet hook.
  • Yarn needle or Latch hook for weaving in ends. Or, you can use a crochet hook.

Abbreviations (US terms):
st. / sts - stitch / stitches
sl st. - slip stitch
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
dc - double crochet
dc2tog - 2 double crochet closed together

ch3picot - ch3, insert your hook into the center of the base stitch, yarn over, pull through all loops on the hook.
ch5picot - ch5, insert your hook into the center of the base stitch, yarn over, pull through all loops on the hook.
()*- repeat the instructions between the brackets the number of times indicated.

Instructions:
Start with ch6, sl st. into first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: ch2 (counts as 1dc of dc2tog), 1dc into ring, ch2,
(dc2tog into ring, ch2)* repeat 9 times.
Join with a sl st. into first dc.

Round 2: ch1 (doesn't count as a st.), 1hdc into same st., 2hdc into next ch2 space,
(1hdc into next dc2tog st., 2hdc into next ch2 space)* repeat 9 times around.
Join with a sl st. into first hdc. (30 sts)

Round 3: ch1 (doesn't count as a st.), 1sc into same st., 1sc into next 2 hdc sts, ch4,
(skip next hdc st., 1sc into next 5 hdc sts, ch4)* repeat 4 times around.
Skip next hdc st., 1sc into next 2 hdc sts. Join with a sl st. into first sc.

Round 4: ch1 (doesn't count as a st.), 1sc into same st., skip next 2 sc sts, 6dc into next ch4 space, ch3, 6dc into same ch4 space,
(skip next 2 sc sts, 1sc into next sc st., skip next 2 sc sts, 6dc into next ch4 space, ch3, 6dc into same ch4 space)* repeat 4 times around.
Join with a sl st. into first sc.

Round 5: (1sc into next 6 dc sts, ch3picot, 3sc into next ch3 space, ch5picot, 3sc into same ch3 space, 1sc into next dc st., ch3picot, 1sc into next 5 dc sts, sl st. into next sc st.)* repeat 5 times around.

Ch1, cut off the yarn, fasten off and weave in the ends.
