Yarn used:

NOTE: Hold two strands of yarn to crochet the hat. One strand is used to crochet the ears.

MC = Main Color for the Hat (2 strands) outer edge and back of the ears 1 strand only.

CC1 = Band Color (2 strands)

CC2 = Inside Ear Color (1 strand)

I used Red Heart Super Saver. It is an acrylic worsted weight (4) yarn only for this project.

Approx. 200 to 300 yds

Gauge:“L” hook/ 4” x 4” = 5 rows h x 8st’s across

Crochet Hook:L 11/8.00mmH 8/5.00mm (ears)

Supplies:

Yarn needle for sewing on the ears and sewing in the ends.
Ribbon of choice if you choose to embellish with ribbon.

Designer Notes:

1.Beginning chains do not count as a stitch, unless otherwise noted.

2. The high back post half double crochet will create that ridge at the top of the hat.
3. Weaving ribbon through the Cross Stitches is a nice option. There are so many fun Easter ribbons out there.

4. Putting a pull tie bow with the matching ribbon at the base of a bunny ear, or at the base of both bunny ears is so cute.

5. Use brown or black to make this a unisex hat.

6. Each has two pieces.

1. The front which has a pink center

2. The back which is a solid color.The sides of the two pieces will be sewn together with a loose slp st, making a picot at the very tip top of the ear.

WRITTEN INSTRUCTION

ON “HOW TO SEW” THE EAR PIECES TOGETHER.

HOW TO SEW THE BUNNY EARS TO THE CROCHET BUNNY BUCKET HAT

1. PUT THE FRONT EAR PIECE ON TOP OF THE BACK EAR PIECE. MATCH THE SIDES TOGETHER. USING AN H 5.00 CROCHET HOOK, AND APPROXIMATELY 2.5 YDS OF YARN SEW THE EAR PIECES TOGETHER USING A SLP ST.
WITH THE FRONT PIECE FACING YOU, START AT THE BOTTOM CORNER, SEW THEM TOGETHER WITH YOUR CROCHET HOOK, USING A LOOSE SLP ST & MAKE A PICOT STITCH AT THE VERY TIP TOP.

2. AFTER THE EAR IS COMPLETELY SEWN TOGETHER, PINCH THE BOTTOM OF THE EAR TOGETHER TO MAKE IT SMALLER, USING THE YARN TAIL TO SEW AROUND IT TO KEEP IT PINCHED AND SMALL. THEN SHAPE THE EAR SO THAT IT LOOKS LIKE A WAVE. A) MOLDING AND CUPPING THE BOTTOM OUT, LETTING IT CUP AWAY FROM YOU. B) MOLD THE MIDDLE PORTION TOWARD YOU. C) PUSH AND MOLD THE TIP OF THE EAR TOWARD YOU.

3. REPEAT STEPS 1 & 2 UNTIL BOTH EARS ARE FINISHED.

4. PIN THE “PINCHED” PORTION [STEP 2] OF THE EARS TO THE BRIM OF THE HAT, IN THE APPROXIMATE PLACE THAT THE EYEBROWS WOULD BE, AT THE LAST ROUND OF THE COLORED BAND, RIGHT BEFORE THE BRIM FLARES OUT.
A) USING A YARN NEEDLE AND THE YARN TAIL, SEW THE PINCHED PORTION IN PLACE.
B) USING A DIFFERENT PIECE OF YARN SEW THE MIDDLE PORTION, [STEP2, SUB STEP B] TO THE HAT. YOU MAY WANT TO SLIGHTLY TIP THE EARS TOWARD THE OUTSIDE OF THE HAT, BEFORE SEWING THE MIDDLE PORTION IN PLACE.

5. OPTIONAL: USE A PORTION OF RIBBON AND WEAVE IN AND OUT OF THE CROSS STITCH ROUND, FOR AN EXTRA BIT OF EMBELLISHMENT. YOU CAN ADD A PULL TIE BOW TO THE SIDE OF THE HAT, OR TO THE BASE OF THE EARS.
